Initial Thoughts:

This was a movie I heard about and decided to watch. Of course I enjoy most movies Ewan McGregor is in and I do like Naomi Watts as well Smile. The fact that this is based on a true story (which  I didn’t know all the details of) gave me more incentive.

Main Points:

Naomi Watts is excellent here as her role as the mother (Maria) and Ewan is also superb as the father (Henry). The child actors are all really good in this film with Tom Holland (Lucas) being a particular stand out who gets a lot of screen time.

The movie has some exciting moments (when the wave comes of course) and then some genuinely heart-wrenching ones as the family tries desperately to find each other. I found this movie very realistic (from what I saw of the Tsunami wave) and very emotional. It is has a nice simple story that works quite well and keep me enthralled the whole time.

It also manages to weave in both the good and bad of human nature as villagers help Maria and Lucas get to a hospital while other people back at the resort could care less about Henry and his search and won’t even let him use their cell phone Sad smile.

A little silly for a true story but I didn’t know I figure it can’t hurt. In the end incredibly all 5 of them find each other and all of them live and leave the island. It was a surprise to me and I was glad to find out that’s how it really happened.Open-mouthed smile

Final Thoughts:

Once again an adult movie certainly not meant for kids. There are scenes of violence (from nature rather than people) and some nudity. I would highly recommend this movie and give it a strong 8/10 Thumbs up. Watch this movie with someone you care about and feel good that you never went through this kind of ordeal (if you have I’m truly sorry). Until next time (which very well could be another movie Winking smile) I am as always…
