Initial thoughts:

Lately I’ve seen a big change with Ben Affleck. He’s actually gotten really good! Smile Gone are the days of flops like Pearl Harbour and Gigli. His acting and directing skills have improved dramatically. So him combined with Bryan Cranston (who just keep’s getting better) and an interesting true story were enough to get me to see this.

Main Points:

I’m not old enough to remember the Iranian hostage crisis (though I knew how it turned out) so I wanted to see all the details involved. It is an exciting, fascinating tale and everyone involved turns in great performances. Aside from those I listed I thought John Goodman and Alan Arkin took on some fine supporting roles.Open-mouthed smile

The movie presents no bias and presents and accurate (as far as I know) depiction of the events. I really enjoyed how the movie is very serious but finds moments of levity and even has some fun before Tony (Affleck) heads off to retrieve the hostages.

SPOILER ALERT!

It’s a true story so I don’t know if this even applies but better safe than sorry. The six hostages that Tony was sent to get do make it out alive (along with all the of rest later on) and of course we knew now that while Canada played a role in the crisis it was the US that actually put the mission together.

Final Thoughts:

An excellent movie, great director, superior performances and lots of excitement. I also appreciated the attention to detail everywhere and the accuracy of events portrayed.Hot smile

I would highly recommend this movie (just not to children) and I give it a strong 8/10 Thumbs up. Until next time (and I’m not saying what will be the next post, I know the suspense will kill you Vampire bat) I am as always…
