Ron Burgundy is San Diego’s top rated newsman in the male dominated broadcasting of the 1970’s, but that’s all about to change when a new female employee with ambition to burn arrives in his office.

Initial Thoughts:

I like Will Ferrell, Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd. For some reason I never saw this movie when it came out, so the other night I finally decided to see it.Open-mouthed smile

Main Points

As per usual I won’t be going through the whole plot of the movie. So Ron Rockwood (played by Ferrell) is the most popular anchorman in San Diego in the 1970’s. He was a motely bunch in his news team (including Brian played by Rudd and Brick played by Steve Carell). Things are going well for them until until a female reporter Veronica (played by Christina Applegate). It is seriously a boys club when it comes to being on the air and the boss, Ed (played by the always funny Fred Willard), give her the worst stories to cover.

It is also becomes quite predictable that while she resists it at first, she does become involved with Ron in a short period of time. As is typical with all Judd Apatow movies there is plenty of wackiness, strange conversations and awkward moments.

Returning to the plot, Ron has a run in with a biker (a nice little cameo by Jack Black) and as a consequence does not show up in time to host the news. Veronica must be the lead anchor and things change for Ron.

SPOILER ALERT!

Once again I really not sure if that was needed but anyway…Ron screws up bad on the air when he tell San Diego to “go fuck themselves” (he will read anything on the tele-prompter and it’s put there to ruin him). Ron is fired and Veronica takes over.

Eventually though there is a huge story over a birth of a baby Panda and Ron gets a second chance when no one can find Veronica (she get’s knocked in a bear pit at the zoo!). In the end Ron and Veronica make up and he gets his job back.Smile

Final Thoughts:

I liked this movie but it is very predictable and has a few too many weird/awkward moments for me. For example when Ron actually eats dog shit at a restaurant, that was too gross for me. There were other parts like this very funny parking lot fight between many different news teams (a few good cameos) and Will Ferrell is funny as always. All of the actors turn in good performances and it’s a case where the plot really isn’t important. So I give it a reserved recommendation of 7/10 Thumbs up. I’m not sure if I’ll see the second one but if you like Apatow’s other films, you’re bound to like this one and I’m sure it will turn on one cable channel sooner or later Winking smile. Until next time I am..
