Labeled an outcast by his brainy family, a bouncer overcomes long odds to lead a team of under performing misfits to semi-pro hockey glory, beating the crap out of everything that stands in his way. love

Initial Thoughts:

I had seen the previews for this movie and I do like Seann William Scott, that plus the Canadian connection (it was filmed in Canada) and the fact that I used to watch hockey, meant that I’d give it a shot.

Main Points:

The movie has a straightforward plot. Scott’s character Doug Glatt is bored and dissatisfied with his life as a bouncer and jumps at the chance to join a hockey team when he gets in a fight with a hockey player at a game Smile.

It’s no surprise that when a lot of people think of Canada they think of hockey. Personally I’m not a fan but I used to watch it and it is at least an exciting sport compared to some others (at least in my opinion.) Vampire bat

The film has some nice performances from people like Kim Coates (from Sons of Anarchy fame) and Allison Pill.

Glatt loves to fight and the coaches sees his potential and sends to a farm team in the NHL. The movie soon shows that Glatt might be tough but he has a good heart and sticks up for his teammates and falls for Eva (Pill).

Glatt’s team makes it to the playoffs and he finally has the fight with his hockey idol Ross Rhea (played by Liev Schreiber) which is more or less a draw. Glatt ends up with Eva (though he’s beaten to a pulp) as she dumps her boyfriend to be with him.Open-mouthed smile

I skipped over a lot of the plot as it doesn’t really matter. This is just a fun movie with some good action (though a tad bloody) and some nice performances.

Final Thoughts:

It’s a mediocre film but I laughed at parts and Scott does such a nice job that I enjoyed it. He is better as an actor than his Steve Stifler days (though he will be Stifler at least once more). I went to the cheap theatre and used some coupons. I’d recommend the same but all and all but if you like hockey and don’t mind some blood, it’s worth checking out. So a 7/10 from me.Thumbs up

  1. Rundown – funny movie. Stupid but funny. He is great in that.

    • Very true 🙂 Some movies you just need to go into with the right expectations, then you won’t be disappointed. Scott will never win an Oscar but he can be amusing 🙂
